Southwest Swell and Summer hit Cardiff

Cardiff had some good waves today. We had a nice southwest swell roll through that had some head high sets. The sun even peaked through a bit, so all in all, a good day!

One thing to note, if you are going to paddle for a wave and you are in position, you either need to go or yell for the others to go. There is nothing worse than when a wave of the day peels through and someone at the peak is paddling so you stop paddling only to watch them not go for it and get it…boo! If you are not going to get that wave, you need to yell to the other surfers to go!

Trestles

Great morning out at Trestles this morning…all of my best friends from Orange County were there to join me as well. No seriously, even with the crowds, that wave is worth the battle and wait.

Keep the beaches clean

I just wanted to throw in a thought after surfing D St the other night. Some kids were drinking on the stairs, and as me and my buddy were walking out to the water, this kid launched a 40 onto the beach right next to us and didn’t even look when he threw it. It could have plugged one of us in the head (and he would have paid the price dearly if that would have happened). Nevertheless, why do you need to throw beer bottles onto the beach! Get smart kids…if you are drinking, don’t be idiots! There were a number of adults on the beach shaking their heads. I hope one was your neighbor and told your dad what a moron you are.

Forgot how much fun the beach breaks are up in Oside Harbor on a smaller day. Had a great day up there yesterday and a nice but sloppy day in Leucadia this morning.

Taking out the old 10′ surfboard

Man, there was some good surf last weekend in North County SD, but it is going to be small this weekend! At least we finally have summer! Taking out the old 10′ surfboard today in Cardiff. At least there is some warm weather and water this weekend.

Man…it has been a couple of weeks since we have seen any waves in Socal. Felt like I was really scraping the last couple of days surfing shorebreak. Is there any end in sight?

Surf Trip to El Salvador

I just booked a surf trip to El Salvador for this November. If you have never checked El Salvador out, the right hand point breaks there are off the hook. There are many waves that rival Rincon, but the area gets way more swell than the Santa Barbara area. Stayed at El Salvador Surf Camp last time which was well priced for what you get and has a great staff. I booked this surf trip with them again but am taking the girlfriend and staying at the Boutique Hotel this time which looks really nice. No surf vacations planned before this one so I am looking forward to it and hoping for good swell.

I heard there was a prom party put on last weekend at the VFW in Encinitas. Drove by the Cardiff Kook later that day and noticed he was dressed up for the event…not bad! I think I am on to the culprits on this one.

US Open of Surfing in Huntington

Good lip hit at the US Open of Surfing

Went up to Huntington Beach last Friday to see the US Open of Surfing. Got a few good surf pictures and a nice lifeguarding picture I think you will like posted below. What an event. Lots of people, music, bikinis, vendors, and of course lots of surf heats. Watched a few of the mens and womens. Kelly Slater had a really good heat. Luckily there was some swell on friday as Thursday was dismal in North County SD.
